Editor's Review

Premium Aeroplan credit card fully loaded with many travel features, benefits and insurance coverage. The annual fee is higher than other premium credit cards however reflect the world class features of the American Express brand.

This American Express®  credit card has a unique points earning structure. Cardholders earn 1.25 Aeroplan miles for every dollar spent. Once $25,000 is spent on the card, cardholders earn 1.5 Aeroplan miles for every dollar spent. The $25,000 cap renews every year meaning you’ll need to start fresh every twelve months. If you don’t spend money on certain categories on a regular basis, for example groceries and pharmacy, this is an excellent credit card because you’ll earn points no matter what you spend on. Points can be redeemed towards flights, cruises, hotels, vacation packages, travel experiences, merchandise and car rentals along with several others. Remember that you’ll get the best value when you spend on flights since that’s what the card is meant for!

American Express®  offers their customers an array of additional benefits. For one, when you sign up for this credit card you’ll earn 40,000 Aeroplan miles as a big welcome. One thing to note is that you must spend $3,000 within your first three months of owning the credit card. Although, that’s enough points to take you on a short flight within North America! American Express also offers their customers travel insurance, unlimited access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, priority check in with Air Canada, valet service at Pearson Airport, seat upgrades, purchase protection among other exclusive perks.

Like many AMEX cards, the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Platinum Card

is a charge card. This means that you must pay the balance in full every month or face high interest charges. The card also comes with a $499 annual fee. If that isn’t within your budget, there are similar AMEX credit cards that are more affordable and have similar Aeroplan earnings such as the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Gold Card.

All in all, the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Platinum Card is a fantastic choice for individuals who can afford the annual fee and make ample purchases on their credit card. Perhaps look for other credit card choices if you’re seeking non-travel rewards or won’t meet the spending requirements to make this card worth your while.
